Come to Ogden in 2004!

Well, we just finished our last convention in Prescott, AZ, and what a convention it was! But, now it’s time to start thinking about next year’s convention. Next year, we will be in Ogden, UT, to explore the UP Trail. Ogden is home to the Golden Spike National Historic Site, where the golden spike was driven to signify where the two train lines met ? one coming from the east, and the other coming from the west ? to complete the transcontinental railroad.

Ogden is a beautiful city nestled in foothills, and very close to where the 2002 Winter Olympics were held. Ogden is also very close to the Great Salt Lake. Ogden is a short drive from the Salt Lake City airport and is easily accessible from I-15 and I-80.

Our convention headquarters will be the Comfort Suites, right off I-15. Our convention will start Monday afternoon with registration at the Comfort Suites. That evening we will have a special treat in that our Monday night BBQ will be held on Antelope Island, an island in the Great Salt Lake. From the deck of the picnic area, we will have magnificent views of the Great Salt Lake. For those adventuresome souls among us, after the meal, you can climb to the top of small peak, and watch the sunset over the Salt Lake. Our caterer will be serving Buffalo burgers as one of the choices for the meal.

Our Tuesday will start with the standard Memorial Breakfast, followed by the Opening Session, Afternoon society auction, and then the Tuesday evening Member’s Book Sale (Joe Wheeler fondly calls this the Huckster’s Night). We are going to try for an expanded Member’s Book Sale that night with significantly more sellers. For our member book dealers, and those with something to sell, come and show your wares ? there are lots of people that still have some cash, because they couldn’t get the item they wanted at the auction that afternoon because of our high bidders.

Wednesday we will be taking a bus trip out to the Golden Spike site, along with having lunch in a surprise, spectacular setting. Wednesday night, we will have our traditional ice cream social hour.

Thursday, we start with the annual meeting, have the afternoon off to shop and stroll around the historic district of Ogden, and then have the Formal Banquet that night.

Unfortunately, the time will go all too fast, and everyone will be leaving Friday morning. I am still working on a location to go for an after convention mini-convention and will have details on this in future issues of the Review.

I am hoping this will be a spectacular convention and will be providing you with details as they get finalized. Look for registration materials early in the year.
