ZGWS 2006 Annual Convention (24th)

ZG House Lackawaxen, PA

Lackawaxen, PA
June 12 – 16th, 2006

Come to the East Coast in 2006!

For our 2006 convention, we will be returning to the Grey’s eastern home in Lackawaxen, PA. This will be the third time our convention is held here. This year, we will be deviating from our normal operating methods – rather than having our convention headquarters at a local hotel, our hosts will be the Woodloch Pines Resort, a full service resort. The resort offers meals as part of their lodging packages, and offer many extracurricular activities, such as swimming, hiking, bicycling, archery, and much more. See below for details on how to make reservations at the Woodloch Pines Resort.

Lackawaxen 2006 will be another first for the Society. We will get special tours of the Zane Grey Museum Home and Rangers will guide us on walks in the areas where Zane Grey hiked, hunted and fished until 1918.

The tentative agenda is as follows:

DateTime Event/Activity
Monday, June 12Afternoon Check-in.
Evening Opening BBQ.
Evening (later) Movie (a Zane Grey western).
Tuesday, June 13Morning (early) Member’s Memorial Breakfast.
Morning Opening Meetings .
Afternoon Annual Auction (bring your material!).
Evening Member’s Book Sale.
Wednesday, June 14All-day Special day at the Zane Grey Home and Museum
Sponsored by the National Park Service
Thursday, June 15Morning Annual Business meeting.
Afternoon On your own.
Friday, June 16Morning Check-out.

At this time, we do not have an after convention trip planned, but keep checking back.

Accommodations at Woodloch Pines

We will be staying at probably a most unique and comfortable East Coast mountain resort for families and groups very similar to ours. In June 2006 there will be about 500 other guests at Woodloch Pines (see, www.woodloch.com for more photos and a tour). As you may recall from our presentation in Utah last year, we will be able to encourage those other guests at Woodloch to join our group and participate in activities like the book sales, etc. Having all local activities will give us more free time to talk with each other socially.

But, the catch is that the other 500 guests are families who have made a return reservation the year before and keep doing so year after year. As soon as they arrive in June 2005, they will make reservations for June 2006. Thus, we need to establish ourselves early to ensure rooms for all our Society members.

Woodloch has kindly offered us the special opportunity to make a tentative no obligation reservation before June 2005 for the Lackawaxen Convention in June 2006. It is especially important to make reservations at the Woodloch Pines Resort as those rooms are scarce. The Woodloch Springs Guest Homes (much like a large cottage with separated, individual bed rooms and bathrooms) will be a bit more available after June 2005. These two types of accommodations and the options within each type are described elsewhere in this presentation and at the Web Site. My own preference is for the Resort as definitely the best value for money.

PLEASE NOTE: The Convention activities and dining facilities are being planned to be at the Resort. As the Guest Homes are about 1.5 miles away, transportation from the Guest Homes to the Resort will be in your own or shared automobile, or by mini bus at a few Woodloch designated times each day.

I encourage you to sign-up for June 2006 early, as this unusual procedure will benefit our Society by ensuring that our group gets the maximum number of rooms together at the Woodloch Pines Resort.

Reservations

Simply, call (800) 453-8263 to speak with a Woodloch representative.

Make your reservation for the Resort (unless you are sure you want to share a Guest Home with other ZGWS friends) and give the pertinent information requested. You will receive a confirmation letter in due course. You can give your $100 deposit at that time, or in the alternative, in March 2006 you will be automatically charged a deposit of $100 and receive another confirmation letter. That $100, even if given at the time of initial reservation, will be refundable up until June 2006 if you change your mind later.

In other words, Woodloch Pines is offering us the special opportunity to reserve rooms at the Resort AHEAD of the other people who will begin doing so in June 2005. If you act now, this will ensure a core number of you get rooms at the Resort and will also open up more possibilities for other, newer Society members to sign up a bit later or make changes later. If you haven’t missed a Convention in years and expect to continue your consecutive record, please sign up now.

REMEMBER, this early, tentative registration procedure will help make the advance planning for the 2006 Convention a success for everyone.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Fawn Glasgow at Woodloch Pines at the above number, Colette Fulton at (845) 534-2664, or me, Henry Nardi, at (570) 296-4942.

Thanks, Henry Nardi
