Heritage Desert was Zane Grey's first romance novel set in the Old West. It tells the story of the Patriarch of a polygamist family who faces the choice of picking up his guns to protect his family or staying true to his faith's teachings against violence. Set near the Grand Canyon, the story also tells the story of the Patriarch's adopted daughter, his son who wants to take her as a polygamist wife and an Eastern man who loves her.
