A Night at Frank Benoit's Cabin
After finally arriving at Grandy's Brook, the long day had not quite ended. R.C. Grey wrote about the end of the first day's adventure, "So much of our day was spent in route to the river that sunset came all too soon. Shortly before dark we located the cabin of Frank Benoit, a French-Canadian guide and trapper [his parents were Mi'Kmaq and French], who was to join our expedition. He was a man of sixty but looked much younger. He had the swarthy skin of an American Indian and an engaging smile. He placed a second cabin at our disposal. We found the prospect of rest exceedingly sweet.” (Outdoor Life, November 1932)
