Fantoms of Peace
"Fantoms of Peace" ran in a single edition of Munsey's Magazine beginning in January 1913.
If you click in the column to the left on the words "one edition" beneath the story's title, you can read "Fantoms of Peace" as originally published. While most of Grey's stories in other publications came with beautiful illustrations, Munsey's Magazine was a different animal. It was a literary magazine dedicated to the written word and each edition was volumous. You will notice that "Fantoms of Piece" begins on page 687.
The story was later adapted as the prologue to Grey's novel, DESERT GOLD. The names of the original protagonists were changed and the storyline was revised somewhat. However, the theme is the same and many passages are identical.
