Rubber Hunter, The

"The Rubber Hunter" is Zane Grey's novel about obsession in the jungles of the  Peruvian wilderness.  In this case, the novel tells a story of one man's obsession for rubber.  Much like the obsession for gold and silver in the American West, the value of rubber in the early 20th century drove men wild down in the Amazon River Basin.  Like many Grey stories, the theme resonates even in today's culture where unhealthy obsessions for intimacy, drugs, power, fame and more destroy people's lives.

You can read this story under the curious title of "Lure of the River" by clicking here. However, "The Rubber Hunter" was published in Popular Magazine in 1911, twelve years earlier and can be read by clicking the link to the right entitled "One Edition."
