The Vanishing American

The Vanishing American is Zane Grey's novel of forbidden love and corruption on the Navajo Reservation.  It is based on the real murder of a Navajo father.  It also involves the story of a Navajo man struggling to reintegrate into his people's culture and the white woman he loves.  You can read the story as it was published by Harpers Brothers after several edits by clicking here.
