Riders of the Purple Sage (Field and Stream) *
Zane Grey's best known novel was Riders of the Purple Sage. Harper and Brothers was, at first, reluctant to publish the novel largely because of how it portrayed some religious leaders. However, it was first published in Field & Stream as a serial beginning in January 1912. Harpers quickly followed with its own publication of the work. In December 1912, a second serial edition was published in Grit Magazine.
Zane Grey's West Society is happy to present copies of the Field and Stream and Grit Magazine serials. However, our collection of both magazines is incomplete. If someone has them, please contact us at info@zgws.org. We offer seven serial editions (specifically, Chapters 15-22)) of the work that were published in 1912 by Field and Stream. You can view these serials by clicking on each respective "Chapter" in the list to the left.
